Warnham Local Nature Reserve has replaced the wooden Woodpecker Bridge with a recycled plastic alternative.

Regular visitors to Warnham Local Nature Reserve may have noticed that we have completed work to replace our wooden Woodpecker Bridge with a recycled plastic alternative. As well as providing an environmentally sustainable solution, the use of recycled plastic helps with several key issues which exist with wood including slipperiness, rotting, splintering, and weathering.
Greater accessibility
The new bridge is double the width of the previous structure which makes access better for our visitors using buggies, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
An integrated environment
In the autumn we are going to install coir rolls to soften the hard edges of the boardwalk. These coir rolls are made from sustainable coconut fibre mesh and planted with Common Reed. The use of this will support the surrounding bank as well as helping the new structure quickly feel part of the reserve.
The new bridge was completed with the support and substantial financial contribution of The Friends of Warnham Local Nature Reserve.
