Edition: July 2026
The Carbon Literacy Project defines Carbon Literacy as: the ability to understand, communicate about, and act on climate change in our daily lives.
It’s about being equipped and empowered to deliver the best possible climate action, wherever you live, work or study.
A Carbon Literate Council
In February 2025, we demonstrated our commitment to Carbon Literacy by becominga Carbon Literate Organisation at a Bronze level, and we are now working towards achieving silver level accreditation. To do this, we need to certify 30% of our work force, as well as show the impact of our pledged actions, and ripple out impact into our community.
So far, we have trained just over 100 staff members, so we are three quarters of the way toward our target, which has led to hundreds of pledges to reduce carbon.
Training opportunity for local organisations
We are also offering courses to a range of Horsham District organisations, including leaders in the community, Parish Councillors, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
So far, we have trained around 30 people and are offering more community‑based courses.
