Edition: July 2025
Commercial Waste, a Horsham District Council service, is available for businesses right across the District.

New legislation, which came into effect from 31 March 2025, means most businesses now need to separate their waste streams and have their recycling, general waste and food waste collected and processed separately.
A hassle-free commercial service
Our Commercial Waste team provide an efficient and competitive service for businesses to meet these new requirements, including a variety of container options to suit different business needs. The revenue generated helps us to deliver our services for residents.
How is the food waste processed?
People often ask, ‘Where does that food waste go?’ Food waste collected across West Sussex is recycled via anaerobic digestion to create biofertiliser and energy.
We are launching food waste collections for homes from spring 2026. We will also be taking that food waste to be recycled along with other food waste collected across West Sussex.
The biofertiliser is used for farmers’ fields and the energy provides power for the plant, with any excess exported to the national grid to be used in homes.
