Our summer of free fun

Edition: November 2024

We have organised and collaborated on a fantastic array of free and low-cost community events and celebrations over the summer and wanted to share some of our highlights.

Children taking part in crafts
Almost Elvis on the Carfax bandstand

Our Horsham town centre free music continued to prove popular with hundreds of attendees.

Events included our Friday Lates (Almost Elvis, pictured) ,Big Band Sessions, Saturday Sussex Sounds performances and our Sussex Sounds Festival.

At Horsham Museum & Art Gallery, we continued the party on special Friday Late events with music, refreshments, and a chance to check out the galleries afterhours, as well as children’s summer crafts and trails.

Children enjoying a tug of war

For Love Parks Week we brought a roadshow of activities to celebrate our green spaces, with sports, theatre, arts, crafts, walks, yoga and more. We loved seeing so many of you joining us around the District.

Wheels for All

We ran two very successful inclusive cycling sessions at The Bridge Leisure Centre. This was the first time we have brought our term-time sessions into the summer holidays.

Our Neighbourhood Wardens arranged lots of free family fun with the support of local businesses, Parish Councils and our Parks and Countryside, Wellbeing and Sports Development teams. This included our Autism and SEN Fun Day at Chanctonbury Leisure Centre, Storrington Funday, Billingshurst Fun Day, Southwater Family Fun Fest and our first Bat Walk at Southwater Country Park.

Craft room

The Storrington and Sullington monthly Cuppa and a Chat group continued to grow, and participants enjoyed a pottery painting trip.

Young people enjoying Horsham Skatejam and two doing tricks on scooters

Summer Skate Jam events in Horsham and Billingshurst saw demonstrations, music, competitions, and workshops with professional riders and skaters.

In Horsham Park we continued our regular Children’s Fun Sessions with traditional entertainers.

Our Pop Up in the Park sessions in partnership with West Sussex County Council brought more free crafts, garden games and quizzes.

Community Heroes

To mark our 50th Anniversary we held a special event at Warnham Local Nature Reserve to celebrate the wonderful Community Heroes you nominated for making the District a great place to live.

Draw our District activity

We also held drop-in Draw our District sessions, where lots of residents came together with the help of a mural artist to illustrate their favourite things about where they live.
