Edition: November 2026
We have continued working to establish Bramber Brooks as a thriving wetland and meadow habitat for wildlife and people.
Restoring important habitats
A new management plan is guiding the site’s long-term restoration and improvement.
Practical conservation work is well underway, including annual hay cuts across the wildflower meadows to encourage a greater variety of plants. Restoration of the historic salterns is also progressing, helping to create a mix of wetland habitats for plants and invertebrates.
Monitoring returning wildlife
Volunteers have been recruited and trained to monitor species. Surveys undertaken have included reptile, amphibian, dragonfly and bird monitoring, providing important baseline information to guide the site’s future management.
Visits from the Sussex Botanical Society have helped document the Reserve’s developing plant life. We have also worked with the Sussex Barn Owl Study Group to understand the site’s value for this iconic species, culminating in the return of breeding barn owls.
