Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in your community and can also be an investment in your own future.

As part of her Year of Volunteering, Chairman of Horsham District Council Cllr Joanne Knowles is encouraging residents to get involved. Whether you want to gain experience, build your confidence, meet people or support a cause that matters
to you, volunteering can open the door to new opportunities.

Build your skills and confidence

You could develop practical and transferable skills that will help you in education and employment.

For young people, volunteering offers real-world experience to strengthen college, university and job applications and shows employers you have commitment and the ability to work with others.

This year, our Voluntary Sector Support Team is offering volunteers free training opportunities. Sessions include social media, leadership, emotional intelligence, first aid, safeguarding, artificial intelligence, conflict management and more.

Volunteering can also help you meet new people, widen your network and feel more connected to where you live.

Turn ‘someone should’ into ‘shall we?’

Cllr Joanne Knowles said:

Volunteers' dedication, compassion and community spirit help make our towns and villages wonderful places to live. During my Year of Volunteering, I look forward to shining a spotlight on their achievements and inspiring even more people to get involved.

Cllr Joanne Knowles
