Edition: July 2025
In May and June, we asked for views from people who live or work in Horsham town centre about whether they’d like a new town council.
This new town council would cover the areas included in the Neighbourhood Councils of Denne, Forest and Trafalgar. If we have a town council some services currently managed by Horsham District Council will transfer to the new town council. These will then be looked after more locally, as they are in other areas with parish councils.
Why now?
The review was started following a request from the Horsham Blueprint Neighbourhood Forum on behalf of local residents, community groups and the Neighbourhood Councils.
Now is an important time for residents to have their say because central Government has started work to reorganise local government. This means the Government will replace Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council with a new council providing all our services. This is known as a unitary council. Parish council services won’t change, but Denne, Forest and Trafalgar Neighbourhood Councils will be overseen by the new unitary council. The new Council will cover a much bigger area than our District Council does today.
What happens next
Your responses will play a crucial role in considering whether we have a new town council and, if yes, what it does.
You can still have your say
When we’ve looked at what you said, and come up with a clear proposal, we will ask you for your thoughts on these in the autumn.
