Edition: November 2026
We know that starting secondary school is a big step for children and parents alike. That’s why our free Growing Your Teenager course run over the summer offered practical advice to help families approach the teenage years with greater confidence.
Delivered with support from Sussex Police and the West Sussex County Council Dedicated Schools Team, the course helps parents understand some of the challenges teenagers may face and how best to support them.
Practical support for parents
Across three evening sessions, parents explored:
- Effective communication
- Setting positive boundaries
- Understanding the teenage brain
- Anxiety and self-esteem.
The course also offered advice on helping young people stay safe online and in the community.
Parents who have taken part say the sessions have helped them feel more confident and aware of the support available. One attendee said:
I feel encouraged and more aware of how to communicate well with my child, what to look out for in terms of grooming and drugs, and how to set positive boundaries that will work for us all as they grow up.
